Statement

Looking toward the light

My work begins with a simple instinct: to look toward the light. I am drawn to the instant when a waterfront, palm, room, or stage stops feeling purely descriptive and starts carrying presence, energy, drift, and atmosphere.

  • finished images
  • coastal atmosphere
  • music, haze, reflection

I look for the instant when light stops describing a place and starts remaking it.

Field

South Florida is the source

The ocean, the Intracoastal, palm-lined streets, moonlight, and local venues are not backdrop. They set the color, pace, and atmosphere of the work, even when the image pushes toward abstraction.

  • Waterfront glare and horizon lines
  • Stage beams, haze, and crowd silhouettes
  • Motion blur, afterimage, and exposure drift

Biography

Todd Waxberg is a self-taught South Florida artist whose work is shaped by decades of living with the region’s coastal light, music, weather, and atmosphere.

Based in Boca Raton and working across Delray Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Ormond Beach, and the surrounding coastal field, he uses photography and video to follow the point where the familiar begins to glow, drift, or break apart. Waterfronts, palms, venue haze, reflective surfaces, and open air become material rather than backdrop.

The work stays grounded in place even when it leans toward abstraction. It is interested in radiance, afterimage, and the brief instant when light changes what a viewer thinks they are looking at.
